National Disaster Relief Recovery Arrangements - The Strand Works
Overview
NDRRA assistance was made available for 25 local government areas as a result of Tropical Cyclone Yasi. With Townsville requiring assistance for restoration of essential public assets, Mendi was selected to carryout The Strand works.
Restoring The Strand to its original profile with an average of seven thousand tonnes of sand loaded and transported from the Burdekin each week. Over 30,000 tones of sand was spread and excavated along The Esplanade—completed under time and under budget.
The Strand was developed as a primary protection barrier to cyclone and storm surge and stretches 2.4kms north of Townsville CBD.
Now The Strand is restored back to its former glory—another prime example of Mendi Construction excellence.
