Being an Environmentally Responsible Company
Mendi acknowledges the importance of environmental values and recognises that we all have a role in protecting the environment. Mendi is committed to protecting the environment by conducting our operations in compliance with the principles of ecologically sustainable development. Mendi accepts responsibility to protect the environment by implementing sound environmental objectives, as detailed below. In order to fulfil these objectives, we recognise the need to not only comply with existing environmental legislation, but also strive to set higher environmental standards for the entirety of our operation and embrace the principals of ecologically sustainable development.
Environmental Objectives
Mendi endeavours to protect the environment for future generations and achieve the following environmental objectives. We will seek to:
- develop processes and procedures to identify, prevent and mitigate environmental pollution,
- integrate environmental management into the Company’s, planning, systems, processes, decision making, and the Company’s Management System Manual (QMS Manual);
- base our Environmental Management System on AS/NZS ISO 14001: 2004 “Environmental Management System – Requirements”;
- efficiently manage our operations in a way that minimise our impact on the land, air and waterways, and to achieve the sustainable use and reuse of resources;
- ensure that employees and sub-contractors are trained to conduct their activities in an environmentally responsible manner; and
- provide appropriate resources to maintain the environmental management system, and achieve the above environmental objectives/performance targets.
- establish, maintain and continue to improve environmental performance, by setting measurable objectives and targets,
- periodically review systems and procedures, environmental Performance, objectives and targets to ensure continual improvement and compliance with legislative and other external requirements,
- and regularly reviewing; and conducting regular environmental audits and assessments of compliance with company environmental objectives, contract and legal requirements, and government regulations;
- instilling in all employees and sub-contractors the importance of taking personal responsibility for all site related environmental issues, ensuring a sense of responsibility and ownership of the space we occupy and the impact we can have on others and the environment, and
- communicating this policy to employees, sub-contractors and the general public by displaying it in the Head Office, site offices and including it in our induction processes.

Together with our existing initiatives to preserve the environment and a strong staff commitment, Mendi will seek to comply with all legal and other requirements and ensure the objectives of this policy continue to be met now and into the future.
