V8 RACETRACK CONSTRUCTION Flash Back 2008

It’s that time of year again where Townsville comes alive and revs up for three fantastic days of racing!

Located just south of the Townsville CBD, the Townsville V8 race track circuit winds its way through Reid Park where specially constructed roads form approximately 70 percent of the circuit. The Townsville circuit has proved to be a challenge and has quickly become a favourite for many V8 drivers.

In partnership with the Department of Sport and Recreation, Leighton Contractors, V8 Supercars and Townsville City Council – The Mendi Group proudly constructed our local $3 Million dollar V8 race track back in 2008 with construction including; 50,000m3 cut to stockpile for the five spectator viewing mounds and site contouring, installation of minor site drainage and service, construction of 800mm of modified pavement with importation of 30,000m3 of varying pavement materials and – of course installation of the 2.86km track, racing kerbs and trimming of open spaces.

Works were conducted over a six month period, which included two months of wet weather during the tropical storm season

The average racing speed around the Towsville V8 race track is 144km/h and the top speed has hit 260km/h with Mark Winterbottom holding both the race lap records and Qualifying lap record.
